John M Pennington enlisted in the 2nd 9th on 22nd January 1916, serving as a Company Clerk. He was killed by a shell when leaving Company headquarters on the 19th April 1917. He was 28 years old and the son of Thomas and Emma Pennington, of High Bank, Mellor Rd., Ashton under-Lyne.
